Speech and Language Programmes

The book start corner is a 4 week programme aiming to promote speech and language development. Each week focuses on a different activity to support children's communication giving tips on; singing nursery rhymes, reading books, using props to engage your child during stories and mark marking. The programme supplies lot of useful free resources for you and your child to enjoy together. Not only will the four weeks support both parent and child's confidence in sharing stories but it is also full of fun for you to share together.

Help Kids Talk

Help Kids Talk is a programme developed by Speech and Language Therapists in the South Eastern Trust. It is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood and at encouraging parents to use rhymes as a way of interacting with their children.  The Facebook page shares a message each month with weekly rhymes, advice and activities encouraging parents to talk and interact with their child to boost communication skills.

We run a Help Kids Talk Baby Event for babies aged 0-6 months where we share ideas for singing, talking and playing with your baby to promote early communication skills. Parents receive a free pack with the messages and a Nursery Rhyme CD and book.

Rhythm, Rhyme and Story Time

This fun group runs weekly and aims to develop children’s speech, language and communication skills through songs, nursery rhymes and stories.  It is run by the Speech and Language Champion and children aged 0-3 years are welcome (whether or not they have speech and language difficulties).

Home Visiting Service

The Sure Start Speech and Language Therapist can offer up to three home visits to registered Sure Start families, in specific circumstances, to offer communication advice and support and to signpost to other services or make onward referrals.  Children can be referred by Sure Start staff or Health Visitors.
